Living environment

The Thiers area is situated in the north eastern part of the Puy de Dome, and is essentially an urban district of the City of cutlers. This pilot territory includes 36 municipalities and has a population of 46 000 inhabitants. The area borders with the Loire department, and the Rhônes Alpes region, but it is also near to Clermont Ferrand , and acts as a gateway to the Auvergne region. The River Dore which takes its source in the Monts du Forez runs through the entire area. The Theirs area is an integral part of the Livardois Forez, and its landscapes are rich and wide ranging, varying from huge forest massifs to pastoral valleys. In addition to this rich natural heritage, the area has a remarkable historic industrial heritage. Despite the relative decline of industry in the area, it remains, with the agricultural sector, the main economic activities in the area.
